His best-kept secfret is that he is a driven and professional man, intensely proud both of his Meindi gypsy heritage and his lucrative employment with the government. Elfriede and Gottfried develop an antagonistic rapport almost immediately, and he is quick to shoehorn caddish professions of admiration and undying love into their back-and-forth.
