Queen Remy is Karder's mother and the de facto ruler of the Western Khaganate. Four years ago, upon Karder's return from the academy, he was falsely imprisoned by the queen's orders, accused of the involvement in the poisoning of his father, the Khan. On the day of the Khan's death, Queen Remy visited Karder in his cell—ostensibly to check on his well-being, though likely to also taunt him. After the Khan's passing, Karder escaped with the help of Barlin, the Khaganate's former spymaster. Fueled by betrayal, Karder vowed to reclaim his birthright and take revenge on his queen mother.
