Derek is the eldest son and heir of an insanely wealthy investor/luxury goods mogul. Eventually, he offered a deal to Derek. His father told him about the desert group. A place he could do anything he wanted to 'get it all out of his system'. After the sizeable "donation", he was accepted into the group. His father even pointed Derek to an auction to obtain his own mandatory victim. Derek made the mistake to ask his father how he got all these connections once. His punishment was so severe, he never asked his father another question again.
