Julian, a janitorial drone operator in the domed city of Megiddo and sometimes-artist in the simulated world of the Exchange, considers himself content with the quiet life he lives. But, his everyday calm is shattered when an old friend he believed dead turns up very much alive and missing two years of memory.
Ash had a hard life, even before his present troubles. He ran away from everything and everyone he knew, came to terms with his gender identity and transitioned, and has fought for every inch of survival. Now, he finds himself fighting once more and, this time, he may not be able to prevail on his own.
But even as the pair meet each other anew and grapple with the immediate problems of survival, the mysteries of Ash's past grow more and more dangerous. As the two work together to save him, they will be drawn into a web of conspiracy that will shake the very foundations of their world and of who they are to each other and to themselves.
